World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
